Summary
This project proposes to expand the Multiethnic Observational Study in American Asian and Pacific Islander Communities (MOSAAIC) cohort to include 1,500 participants aged 65 and older, leveraging existing infrastructure to study healthy aging factors.
What they want
The project aims to expand the MOSAAIC cohort by recruiting 1,500 participants aged 65 and older from East, Southeast, and South Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities across the U.S. through five geographically diverse Clinical/Community Field Centers (CCFCs). It will implement the MOSAAIC core protocol to evaluate cardiometabolic and pulmonary outcomes, social drivers of health (SDOH), and demographic, cultural, behavioral, and biological factors. Additionally, it will expand the assessment of aging-related health factors, including mobility, physical function, frailty, cognitive health, cognitive decline, impairment, and dementia.
Deliverables
- Recruitment of 1,500 participants aged 65 and older from AsA, NH, and PI communities
- Implementation of the MOSAAIC core protocol for health outcome evaluation
- Expanded assessment of aging-related health factors (mobility, physical function, frailty, cognitive health)
Technical requirements
- Leverage MOSAAIC’s existing infrastructure for organization, data management, and biorepository capabilities
- Utilize culturally tailored data collection tools translated into five Asian-language versions
- Employ tools refined through extensive feasibility studies conducted in 2024
