Advancing Gender and Health Justice Research and Education

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5R25LM014575-02

Summary

This project aims to advance gender and health justice research and education, focusing on HIV prevention and health outcomes for minoritized women, including BIPOC women, transgender women, and BIPOC trans women, through short courses for public health students and community health workers.

What they want

The project addresses the convergence of multiple epidemics in the lived experiences of those at intersecting minoritized social positions, particularly women vulnerable to gender-based violence, HIV transmission, and structural social inequities. It highlights the heightened vulnerability of minoritized women (BIPOC women, transgender women, and BIPOC trans women) in a contemporary environment threatening their rights. The project will develop several short courses to train a new generation of public health professionals (undergraduate students, MPH students, and community health workers) in methods to advance the intersection of HIV prevention and gender and health justice. The work will leverage the intellectual capital and infrastructure of the University of California Center for Gender and Health Justice.
