Reprogramming myeloid cell metabolism to prevent cognitive aging and Alzheimer's Disease

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5R01AG070839-03

Summary

This project investigates whether reprogramming myeloid cell metabolism, specifically by modulating the PGE2 signaling pathway, can prevent cognitive aging and Alzheimer's Disease.

What they want

The research will test if modulating cellular metabolism in aging microglia and/or peripheral monocytes/macrophages, via the PGE2 signaling pathway, is disease-modifying in aging and AD model mice. It aims to answer fundamental questions including whether myeloid metabolic deficits drive brain aging, whether peripheral or brain myeloid compartments are critical, and if targeting myeloid metabolism represents a new therapeutic approach for AD.
