Leveraging community health workers to improve SARS-CoV-2 testing and mitigation among criminal justice-involved individuals accessing a corrections-focused community-based organization

US · IL · New York City NIH grant awarded #nih-5R01MD016744-05

Summary

This study aims to test the impact and cost-effectiveness of a community health worker-led intervention for SARS-CoV-2 testing and mitigation among criminal justice-involved individuals recently released from incarceration in New York City.

What they want

The study will conduct a randomized trial comparing an onsite Point-of-Care SARS-CoV-2 testing and education intervention, with community health workers (CHWs) as a central component, to the standard of care at a corrections-focused community-based organization (CBO). The research will measure costs of testing, education, and navigation, and explore the cost-effectiveness of the onsite Point-of-Care intervention. Specific aims include testing the effectiveness of the onsite PoC SARS-CoV-2 intervention in a corrections-focused CBO and modeling its cost-effectiveness among criminal justice-involved individuals compared to the standard of care.
