The opposing effects of matrix aging and muscle activity on extracellular vesicle promotion of muscle regeneration

US · IL NIH grant open #nih-5R01AG087565-02

Summary

This research project investigates how extracellular matrix (ECM) aging and muscle activity differentially influence extracellular vesicle (EV) promotion of muscle regeneration, specifically focusing on muscle stem cell (MuSC) function.

What they want

The project aims to understand the mechanisms by which aged skeletal muscle ECM shifts molecular cargoes of muscle EVs, leading to compromised MuSC myogenicity and functional regeneration (Aim 1). Additionally, it will mechanistically interrogate how muscle activity rejuvenates ECM biophysical features and EV biomolecular signatures to support MuSC myogenicity and functional muscle regeneration (Aim 2).
