Summary
This project aims to refine and test an Adjunctive Writing intervention (AWARE) designed to improve patient-therapist communication in evidence-based treatments for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), thereby enhancing treatment outcomes.
What they want
The research involves iteratively refining the AWARE intervention through a case series (n=4), followed by a pilot randomized controlled trial (n=50) comparing CPT/PE with AWARE to CPT/PE treatment as usual (TAU). The primary aim is to demonstrate AWARE's feasibility, acceptability, and its ability to improve patient-therapist communication. Preliminary examinations will assess AWARE's effects on symptom improvement and treatment completion, and an exploratory aim will investigate patient-therapist communication as a mechanism for improved outcomes.
Deliverables
- Refined Adjunctive Writing intervention (AWARE)
- Results from a case series (n=4) on AWARE refinement
- Results from a pilot randomized controlled trial (n=50) comparing AWARE to treatment as usual
- Demonstration of AWARE's feasibility, acceptability, and engagement of improved patient-therapist communication
- Preliminary findings on AWARE's effects on symptom improvement and treatment completion
- Exploratory findings on patient-therapist communication as a mechanism of improved symptom reduction and attendance
