MDS-Associated Spliceosome Mutations Regulate Host Defense

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5R01AI155749-05

Summary

This project investigates how myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)-associated spliceosome mutations compromise myeloid cell function and host defense, leading to increased infection risk.

What they want

The project will use ex vivo studies with mouse and human neutrophils and macrophages, in vivo studies in mice expressing mutant spliceosome genes, and analysis of clinical data from patients with MDS. These studies aim to determine the mechanisms underlying host defense defects in MDS patients with spliceosome mutations.
Deliverables
  • Determine the mechanisms underlying host defense defects in MDS patients with spliceosome mutations
  • Provide important clinical data about patient risk stratification
