Outreach & Engagement Core

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5U54CA143924-17

Summary

The Outreach and Engagement Core (OEC) aims to strengthen Arizona Native Nations' capacity and infrastructure for sustained, community-based cancer education, screening, and care services to advance cancer health equity.

What they want

The OEC will integrate Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews using a 'two-eyed seeing approach' to leverage community assets and address needs. Objectives include enhancing tribal health department expertise in cancer education and patient navigation through training, inter-tribal peer-program mentoring, and program development. It will also increase access to and application of information from NACP-funded research projects, as well as state and national resources. Guiding principles include collaboration, expanding partnerships with institutional partners, Native Nations, and Native American-serving entities to build regional capacity, support tribal efforts, and mentor NACP investigative teams in research dissemination. Specific aims include enhancing AZ Native Nations’ cancer patient navigation capacity through CHR training and mentorship, facilitating a national Intertribal cancer network, and mentoring NACP research teams in community-based dissemination.
