Multisite Implementation of COMPRENDO (ChildhOod Malignancy Peer REsearch NavigatiOn) to improve participation of Hispanic children in cancer clinical trials

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5R01CA279945-03

Summary

This project aims to implement and evaluate the COMPRENDO peer navigation intervention across multiple sites to improve research literacy among Hispanic parents, ultimately increasing clinical trial participation for Hispanic children with cancer.

What they want

The project will conduct a multisite effectiveness-implementation randomized clinical trial (RCT) at four sites with diverse Hispanic populations. Hispanic parents will be randomized to receive either the COMPRENDO intervention (trained peers providing culture, language, and health literacy-concordant education during informed consent) or usual care. The study will measure child-centered outcomes, such as clinical trial accrual, and parent-centered outcomes, including informed consent comprehension, voluntariness, decisional regret, decision-making self-efficacy, and satisfaction.
Deliverables
  • Actionable knowledge on how peer navigation can improve research literacy and clinical trial accrual
  • Evaluation of the COMPRENDO peer navigation intervention's effectiveness and implementation determinants
