The RSELVES Study: Remote Sensing of (older adult partners') Engagement in Life and Variability in Everyday Support

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5R01AG080644-03

Summary

This study aims to examine intra-dyadic patterns and changes in daily life engagement and functional interdependence among 100 older adult couples at high risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, utilizing remote sensing and a specific digital data technology platform.

What they want

The overall goal is to discover changes in life engagement and function in older adult couples by examining intra-dyadic patterns and change along cognitive and well-being trajectories. This involves characterizing baseline interdependence in patterns of life engagement and function among couples with a partner at high risk for dementia (Aim 1), evaluating longitudinal dyadic change in life engagement (e.g., dyadic disengagement or partner compensation) and support (Aim 2), and determining the extent to which dyadic life engagement and support appraisals mitigate the influence of cognitive impairment on functional impairment and well-being (Aim 3). The study will use an innovative digital data technology platform and a dyadic approach informed by the Developmental-Contextual Model of Couple Synchrony.
Deliverables
  • Characterization of baseline interdependence in patterns of life engagement and function among couples with a partner at high risk for dementia
  • Evaluation of longitudinal dyadic change in life engagement and support
  • Determination of the extent to which dyadic life engagement and support appraisals mitigate the influence of cognitive impairment on functional impairment and well-being
Technical requirements
  • Innovative digital data technology platform developed by the Oregon Center for Aging and Technology
  • Dyadic approach informed by the Developmental-Contextual Model of Couple Synchrony

Risks & flags

  • Requirement for a specific 'digital data technology platform developed by the Oregon Center for Aging and Technology' could indicate a sole-source or highly specialized requirement if this were a competitive solicitation.
