Summary
This project aims to increase the practical delivery of geriatric assessment in community oncology settings to improve patient outcomes, comparing standard educational materials with materials supplemented by implementation and maintenance support.
What they want
The project will compare ASCO educational materials (control) to six months of the same information supplemented with implementation support, followed by twelve months of maintenance support (intervention). It includes a UG3 pilot phase in three practices to refine the protocol, followed by a UH3-Phase parallel practice randomized trial involving 20 practices in the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). Implementation supports will include promoting adaptability, facilitation (workflow tailoring), and education and training. Aim 1 will measure reach, adoption, and implementation through n=960 patient chart reviews. Aim 2 will survey patients to assess effectiveness (provider communication, toxicity, quality of life). Aim 3 will assess sustainability through a distinct n=960 chart review for maintenance, adaptations, and contextual factors. The project is guided by the Practical, Robust Implementation and Sustainability Model (PRISM) and will use surveys, interviews, and site observations.
