Summary
This project is a renewal of the Outcomes of Babies with Opioid Exposure (OBOE) study, a longitudinal study investigating the effects of prenatal opioid exposure on infant brain development and neurodevelopment up to 2 years of age, aiming to complete follow-up for enrolled infants.
What they want
The project aims to determine the impact of prenatal opioid exposure on brain structure and connectivity over the first two years of life, define medical, developmental, and behavioral trajectories in exposed infants, and determine how the home environment, maternal mental health, and parenting modify these trajectories. The study has completed enrollment of 200 opioid-exposed and 100 unexposed infants and will now complete follow-up to age 2.
Deliverables
- Completion of follow-up for enrolled infants to age 2
- Analysis of brain structure and connectivity data related to prenatal opioid exposure
- Analysis of medical, developmental, and behavioral trajectories in infants exposed to opioids
- Analysis of the modifying effects of home environment, maternal mental health, and parenting on neurodevelopmental trajectories
- Publication of abstracts and manuscripts using OBOE data
Technical requirements
- Advanced neuroimaging (unsedated neonatal and infant cranial MRI)
- Standardized neurodevelopmental assessments by certified examiners
- Collection of infant umbilical cord data
- Maternal questionnaires for home environment, mental health, and parenting information
