Malaysian Implementation Science Training (MIST) Program in HIV

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-2D43TW011324-06

Summary

This program aims to expand HIV Implementation Science training in Malaysia and Indonesia by establishing a Center of Excellence at University Malaya, enhancing curriculum, and training faculty and students.

What they want

The program will create a Center of Excellence in HIV D&I at University Malaya (UM) through additional training of 4 faculty members (2 with qualitative research skills, 2 HIV clinicians). It will enhance curriculum with new HIV D&I coursework, leading to a certificate program and a new MPH concentration in D&I for eight new students (half from New Haven). By Year 3, the program plans to expand HIV D&I training beyond Kuala Lumpur to other parts of Malaysia and Indonesia, initially through travel scholarships for summer bootcamps and later by creating satellite boot camp sessions in Indonesia. The PhD program will be sustained, and a D&I certificate will be provided to all 6 PhD candidates. The practical blended implementation facilitation strategy, NIATx, will be expanded as short-term pragmatic implementation training. A Learning Resource Center and Implementation Hub will be strengthened by sharing content with other D43 training programs and as an open-access commodity, building an Asian-Pacific HIV D&I resource hub. MPH and PhD students from Malaysia will receive scholar support for advanced D&I training to benefit academic institutions, NGOs, and the Ministry of Health in the region.
