Novel Over-the-Scope Platform for Control of Variceal Bleeding

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-1R43DK142274-01

Summary

EndoNavis is developing a novel over-the-scope platform to control refractory variceal bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract, combining existing endoscope technology with a new balloon design.

What they want

The project aims to design a therapeutic balloon/catheter for UGI passage with excellent endoscopic visualization (Specific Aim 1), establish optimal balloon design for controlling bleeding from both esophageal and gastric variceal sources (Specific Aim 2), and assess the feasibility of the platform for post-treatment monitoring (Specific Aim 3). The overall goal is to produce a functional bleeding control system ready for further verification and validation testing, with a target for 510(k) approval.
Deliverables
  • functional bleeding control system ready for next stage verification and validation testing
Technical requirements
  • therapeutic balloon/catheter capable of passage through the UGI anatomy with appropriate optical qualities to ensure excellent endoscopic visualization
  • optimal balloon design to control bleeding from both esophageal and gastric variceal sources
  • feasibility of the bleeding control platform in conducting post-treatment monitoring
