Elucidating the role of jails in MRSA community transmission

US · IL NIH grant awarded #nih-5F32MD017937-03

Summary

This project aims to investigate the relationship between jail-based transmission of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and community-level infection risks, particularly among racial and ethnic minority populations.

What they want

The proposed work involves using detailed genomic data in conjunction with hierarchical regression and individual-based modeling to elucidate whether jails amplify community MRSA transmission or simply reflect elevated community rates. The results will inform improved MRSA surveillance and the design of targeted interventions in populations with health disparities and within jails.
