Summary
This study examines the impact of nursing home leadership, care environments, and health information technology (HIT) on outcomes for residents with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).
What they want
The study has three specific aims: 1) To provide comprehensive assessments of HIT maturity and Nurse Practitioner (NP) care environments in 1400 nursing homes (NHs) with dementia residents, linking survey data to national NH data. 2) To examine the impact of NH HIT maturity and NP care environments on differences in outcomes (hospitalizations, emergency department visits) for residents with dementia, linking surveys to resident-level Medicare claims data. 3) To explore facilitators and barriers for achieving improved outcomes from the perspectives of 70 NH administrators and 70 NPs through key informant interviews, representing various HIT maturity and care environments.
Deliverables
- Comprehensive assessments of HIT maturity and NP care environments in NHs
- Examination of the impact of HIT maturity and NP care environments on resident outcomes
- Exploration of facilitators and barriers to improved outcomes
- Identification of methods to improve quality of NH care for residents with dementia
- Identification of targeted interventions to improve outcomes of residents with dementia
Technical requirements
- Assessment of Health Information Technology (HIT) maturity
