Summary
This study aims to conduct a small-scale randomized trial to gather preliminary efficacy and feasibility data for the Aphasia: Nurturing Connections, Honoring Ongoing Relationships (ANCHOR) program, an intervention designed to help people with aphasia maintain social connections.
What they want
The study will involve a small-scale randomized trial with an immediate treatment group (n=20 PwA and friends) and a delayed treatment group (n=20 PwA and friends). Aim 1 is to gather preliminary efficacy data by comparing pre-post effect size differences between groups using the Measure of Skill in Supportive Conversation (MSC) and the Measure of Participation in Conversation (MPC). Aim 2 is to gather feasibility and acceptability data, including descriptive statistics on screening pass rates, program completion rates, adverse incidents, treatment fidelity, and feedback from interviews with participants.
Deliverables
- Preliminary efficacy data on the ANCHOR program
- Feasibility data on the ANCHOR program
- Acceptability data on the ANCHOR program
- Descriptive statistics on study metrics (screening, completion, adverse incidents, treatment fidelity)
- Interview feedback from people with aphasia and friends
Technical requirements
- Implementation of the ANCHOR program (three hour-long speech-language pathologist-facilitated sessions)
- Utilization of a digital platform for friends to access program content
- Application of Measure of Skill in Supportive Conversation (MSC) as an outcome measure
- Application of Measure of Participation in Conversation (MPC) as an outcome measure
Key personnel
- Speech-language pathologist (facilitator)
